So my over the past month or so my computer has been randomly freezing. It can be once a hr or day or every 3 mins. I can hear the hard drive winding down and then the computer somewhat freezes(I can move the mouse around but can't open any folders etc) about 30-60 second later I can hear the HD working again and everything is fine.

I tried installing a fresh copy of windows 7 and that didn't help. I just finished running the Diagnostics from WD and both quick and extended reported fine. While doing the extended scan the HD actually did this cycle at least 5-6 times. Though it reported back fine. So could this be PS related? The side is always off my case and all my fans are working properly. HD isn't hot to the touch. Any suggestions on what to check next? I don't have an extra HD I can swap or HD so just trying to narrow it down best I can before I go and buy some parts.

This sound like a hdd failure I would get a new hdd drive but if u want to save data get a external drive or a flash drive and save backup your files if they are important.

Check the power options in Control Panel. Your hard drive may be set to turn off after a period of time. keyboard or mouse may wake it up with some lag.

Could also be a failing hard drive as mentioned above.
