harddrive not working

Specs: Windows XP, 256
My packard bell is not recgognising my dvd .I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it.It comes back for a second as detected new dvd drive but then is fails again.Do you think it could be the hardware as opposed to the driver,although in the device manger it is highlighted as yellow.

do you know where i can download the driver for it online?

It doesn't need a special driver, the driver is built into Windows. Go to Device Manager, right click on the listing for the DVD drive, uninstall it, then reboot.

thanks for the reply,sorry about the delay in getting back.

I actually tried that but it would work for about three seconds and then I d get the message that is is not being recgonised so I tried system restore which seemed to have done the trick.
