Specs: Vista
My daughter spilt a bit of her drink and ran down a hole on her laptop and stopped working. It kept saying Nvidia boot agent 249.0542, pxe-e61 media test failure, check cable and pxe-mof exiting nvidia boot agent.

Now I tried the hard drive from my other daughter’s laptop and it worked fine so I went out and bought a new hard drive. I then put it all back together and turned on so to reload the o.s. It started to load when it then came up with an error and said to disconnect the new hardware and try again.

I did these and now all it does is the same as the original message. The only difference is that in bios the hard drive is there as it wasn't with the damaged one. Please help.

You should have cleaned the laptop thoroughly before attempting the run it. You may have damaged hardware.

What was the content of the drink that was spilled on the laptop and what part of the laptop was affected?

It was just orange and a little bit went on the hard drive. I cleaned it up and then tried another hard drive from an identical laptop and it worked fine.

After installing the new drive you say you ". . .turned on so to reload the o.s. It started to load. . ." What started to load? If it was a brand new drive there was nothing on the drive to load. So do you mean it booted from the Vista disk and started to install?

Yes, sorry that's right. it started to boot and then said error. and now its doing the same as the original hard drive did but the difference is the new one is recognized in BIOS.

Depending on what the error message says, the problem could be with the CD/DVD drive or Vista disk and not the hard drive.
