Hard drive wont show up

September 25, 2012 at 06:08:46
Specs: Windows 7
I currently use a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12, 500 Gb (ST3500418AS) which had failed, and I try to replace it with a brand new Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB SATA/64MB Cache.
When i plug in the new HDD and run the PC I cant install windows since it wont locate the new HDD. I also were not able to run the BIOS.
any suggestions?

Check you have connected the drive properly (including the power cable).

Is this a laptop computer?

Are you trying to install Windows 7? If so, you need to boot to the Windows 7 DVD and install from there.

A new hard drive without any operating system on it can't be booted to.

You MAY need to change your boot order in the BIOS (setup) to set the CD/DVD drive before the hard drive. Watch for a message to hit any key to boot from the CD.

If you are using a USB keyboard you may need to temporarily revert to a PS/2 keyboard.
