Hard Drive swap issue with HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

June 21, 2010 at 13:15:53
Specs: Windows XP
Taking hard drive from old pc to new pc. I am trying to delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum so that it will re-enter the hardware. Even if i am admin on local machine it will not let me delete Enum. There are multiple Control Set's (i.e. Control Set 001,Control Set 002, Control Set). I am only able to delete the Enum in the Current settings not in the LOCAL_MACHINE.

It doesn't work that way with XP. You're going to have to reinstall using the "repair" method:

Use a live cd like barts to edit it.

Might do a repair from booting with xp cd.
