Depends on how you convert it.

How do you plan to save it? What program are you using?

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

I am using the dazzle 100 which came with it's own software. it converts into AVI and is taking about 25GB for a 2hr tape.

I think you can change the format and size if needed.

That stupid company was a pain in behind.

There are other ways and formats you might be able to get to work. Depends on how you need the file in the end.

See things like VLC (or portableVLC) and it might work to save the video.

VHS tapes weren't that good to start with. Go to the link below for help with converting VHS. Where do you intend to copy the finished product? On DVD?

thanks to all.
Yes the final step is to get them on to DVD, and I will check out VLC.

A very popular format is either DIVX or XVID at about 1000Kb/s. That is a pretty good compromise between picture quality and a reasonable file size.

(edit) However, if your intention is to go straight to DVD, then go for the highest quality of recording and MPEG2 whuch is the format used for DVDs.
Using MPEG2 will save time when burning the DVD.
