How can I diagnose my IDE controller?

You can diagnose the Maxtor hard drive itself with the Seagate's SeaTools diagnostic software from here: http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/su...

Yep...it even shows wrong in Seatools...MaxBlast...etc. My secondary ide (JMicron RAID) shows correct drive (MaxtOr not Maxtmr)...but does not show in windows explorer (Win 7) and it shows in device manager as SCSI. My DVD burner (on same secondary ide ribbon) works fine. It is a TSST...when I connected it (the DVD) to the primary (BAD?) ide controller it showed as TQST and did not work. Also testind a WD800...well it shows as UD800... Bad primary controller???

switch the cables and try again.
