hard drive only detects 120gb not 320gb

Specs: Windows XP, AMD / 1gb
when windows installs, it detects a drive of only 120gb and not the whole 320gb western digital i bought. is there a solution? do i go in to the bios? i don't se anywhere to change the hard drive description. i have a Acer 5000 notebook, it over heats and sucks but its what i have.

You need at least Service Pack 2 to recognise more than 130GB and the motherboard BIOS to be 48LBA complient:

There might be a jumper that limits the drive also. See owners manual for jumper locations.

Slight correction to response #1. SP1 is all that is required to be integrated into your installation CD. Of course if you don't have any SPs integrated into the CD then best to go directly to SP3 as indicated above.
