Solved Hard drive disappeared, LOTS of beeps

August 9, 2011 at 03:16:13
Specs: Windows 7
My laptop (ASUS K61IC) suddenly won't boot up anymore after I awoke it from standby and it froze. I checked the harddrive, but it seems to be in place. In the BIOS I can not see my drive anywhere, like it is not plugged in. Once I let it run freely the boot process stops at the message "no bootable device found".

From the moment I press the start button the laptop beeps at about 2 Hz for about 5 minutes.

Please help I've been searching for a solution for days now.

Remove the harddrive, boot the laptop. If it goes to no bootable device found sooner, you probably have a bad harddrive. Since it is not recognised by the hardware, chances are all information is gone too.
You could try an adapter and see if the desktop recognises it.
From the description, the drive motor is not spining up or the heads are locked in park.

This sounds a bit too dangerous for me to do, I was hoping for a simple solution but if this is the case I'll just take it to the repairshop once I can :( Fingers crossed I can recover some data.
