Without giving us any details, it's impossible to answer your questions.

What is the make and model of your computer?
How did it crash, IE. physical damage, just died on it's own, etc?

If your drive failed, it is probably a good indicator that there is something wrong with it, to continue using it would be a bad idea. Replacing the drive first, then installing an operating system would be the best way to proceed.

It depends on what happened when it 'crashed'. If there's a physical problem with the drive then as already mentioned it should be replaced. If it was a software crash then most computers that had the OS preinstalled have a restore partition and you can restore it to the way it was when it was new. As far as upgrading, most computers that came with windows 8 can be upgraded to windows 10.

A simple reformat will erase it.

But as THX 1138 asks, what are the specifications (Processor, RAM, Hard drive size) of your machine. If Win8 was running on it, why did you want Win10?

Hi,

If it crashed when downloading W10, suggests hdd probably became full before completion.
Think downloading an os to a working hdd is unwise, better a memory stick..

Also hdd should have been defragmented before starting download..

Removing unwanted files and partial download might restore usage,.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.
