Hard disk not found

Microsoft Windows vista home premium - 3...

Specs: Windows XP
My dell lapton inspiron 1520 has been slowing to a crawl, sometimes freezing and then coming up saying that there is no hard disk found. Sometimes it will restart. Did a disk check, and found quite a few bad areas. My system also says the battery is no good. I replaced the battery. Will this fix the problem, or is it actually the hard drive that is the problem?

The battery has no effect on the performance of the hard disk. If the hard disk check comes up with bad areas its time to think about buying a new hard disk.

Yikes. I think I will just get a new laptop. This Inspiron has been nothing but headaches since I got it for my daughter. My Acer with Window's 7 has been totally reliable. Thank's for the reply.

I wouldn't blame it on the Dell just yet. I have recently seen one
with the same problem, bad battery and drive. Turns out the user
was laying in bed with the notebook sitting on the blanket. This
blocked the vent on the bottom and killed the drive and battery.
Heat will build up when setting a notebook PC on soft surfaces.

Where does your daughter use the notebook at? Could be user
error causing the issues. Cost of a hard drive is less than the
cost of a new notebook PC.

Yes, my daughter did use it alot on her bed. I also did some research and found a hard drive for this computer which is not that difficult to replace. So I bought her a new dell, and the old one is going to my other daughter once I get the new drive installed. Hopefully I will have a practically like-new computer up and running. The new drive was only 40 bucks on ebay. No more bed usage LOL. keeping my fingers crossed.
