Hard Disk not detected by laptop.

February 4, 2011 at 15:23:27
Specs: Windows XP
my hard disk had only 1 partition section and was trying to make diff partition for it.
I went to Disk Management console and right click on my external HDD and by mistake clicked on delete partition.
Now my hard disk is not detected by my Laptop.
- In device manager it is appearing as "Unknown Device" under "Universal Serial Bus controller"
- Also now my HDD is not appearing in Disk management console since it is an unknown device now for my laptop.
Any solution how i can fix this problem?
Thanks in advance.

You just lost everything you had on the external HDD. You may be able to get it back by using recovery software. If it's not important, just repartition & reformat the drive.

You probably need to plug the external drive enclosure into a different USB port. Once the external enclosure shows up properly in Device Manager as a USB Mass storage device, the hard drive inside of it will show up in Disk Management - Device Manager - Disk drives, and in the mboard's bios.

Troubleshooting USB device problems including for flash drives, external drives, memory cards.
