Hanns G Monitor makes hissing noise

Hi everyone. I need a little bit of help/ I have a Hanns G HW173 LCD monitor. Recently it just stopped displaying altogether. I know it's receiving information because the power light is green but it also flickers. Stays on for a few seconds and goes off. While it's flickering is when I hear the hissing. I've opened it already and the noise seems to be coming from....idk how to describe it really. It's the metal square with the plastic wrapping in the center. Hope this helps.

I would not use the monitor anymore, it may be dangerous. The hissing could be something burning up in the monitor, or it could be some kind of short circuiting, both of which could burn your house down. First though I want to ask if there is any dust and debris inside the monitor? If the inside is clean, most likely a serious problem is occurring, and you'll want to plan to get a new monitor.

Nothing more than light dust inside, not enough to cause any serious problems. I'll test it once more and if it still flickers, I'll have to get a replacement then. Before it stopped working, there was a power flux, power came and left a few times and the monitor was still plugged in. That's when the trouble started. It would stay on for a while then flicker. Eventually i had to leave it flickering until it stabilized.

If you mean a power surge, then most likely the monitor is toast. That Metal Square thing may have been the power transformer for the monitor, then it got fried so it can't power the monitor with the proper amount of voltage, causing the monitor to power on for just a second, then run out of power.

Ok I'll have to get it replaced then. Thank you for your help. Looks like I'm stuck with a CRT....that won't even display the colours properly. Anyway, better than no monitor. Thanks again for your help.
