Graphics card overheating?

Ati Radeon hd 2400 pro video card
November 17, 2009 at 21:18:30
Specs: Windows Vista
After playing the game dragon age for a couple hours my monitor starts to turn the display off itself. The green light on the monitor stays on, and the sound works. I can turn the monitor off and then back on and it works for about 3 more minutes, then does the same thing. If i turn my computer off for a while it works fine again. This happens only if i play the game for a while.

I have a dell monitor, vista, and an ati radeon 2400 pro.

That's what I would suspect but I am no expert. Does that card have a fan and is it turning?

Likely

I want to go like my grandfather did. Peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming at the top of my lungs like the passengers in his car.

I am pretty sure it is turning. The graphics card is a bit under the requirements for the game so i guess i am overworking it a bit. Would my monitor shut off like that as a safety feature or something?

Not sure it's a safety feature more apt to be the card is overheating and failing. Like I said though I am no expert. Have you opened the case? Can you leave the side panel off while playing the game to see 1 the fan, 2 if a good deal of heat is comming from the card during gaming? Also if you do try to leave it opened does it last longer before it does this?

Leaving the case opened is not recomended, you can get more dust and other stuff in there that can damage the computer. I would recomend shopping for a card that is up to the game specs.
