Graphics card not detected after reformatting

Ati Radeon 9600 video card
November 20, 2009 at 18:02:48
Specs: Windows XP
Hello, I just reformatted my computer. And all went smoothly until Windows crashed during boot up. (the screen just after the logo and bios details pop up) So I went into safe mode, where the device manager couldn't detect my card.

So naturally I went to find the drivers for my card, which I tried to install, but I get a error "No device was found which requires these drivers"
I'm not sure what is wrong, but if someone could help me it would be greatly appreciated. ^.^

I'm running windows XP Home.

Where did you get the drivers? ATI CD or off the net?

OK. What does Windows say you have for a display adapter when you boot into normal windows?

XP has drivers for the 9600 series that are slightly newer than the ones that shipped with the cards (6.14).

Does your motherboard also have onboard video?

I can't boot into normal windows, it crashes.

But I think it's a VGA.

My mobo doesn't have onboard video.

I believe the fault here is with your XP install; not the Radeon 9600. I'd do the full insall of XP again.

Did you get any error messages prior to the crash?

Nope, I've reinstalled it three times now, still crashes.
