Specs: Windows 7
hi,
i'm using a Sony Vaio VGN-AR61M and i think my video card is broken.
It started a few months ago when i just launched my pc.
It didn't work so i reinstalled windows and for some reason after that it worked just fine.
But i can't install my video cards driver or else my laptop won't boot.
It just stalls after the windows logo.
I tried it several times and my video cards seems te be working just fine when i install the driver and for some mysterious reason i can reboot it(works 1 in 200 times).
I use an Nvidea Geforce 8500 M GT by the way.
So my question is: If i dont install the video card driver my computer can reboot if i do i can't so is my video card broken and do i need to replace it?
This laptop is designed for windows vista and i installed windows 7 can it be that reason?
I'm sorry for this huge question but im quite a computer retard and i dont have money for a new video card.

So what's the problem with using the SONY driver? It's not like the 8500M GT is a gaming card. What do you hope to improve?

BTW, I just checked the nVidia site & your card isn't even listed, so where are you finding a driver for it? Maybe that's why it says "no compatible hardware found"?

if i use that driver i need to reboot my laptop and for some mysterious reason that is imposible after installing my graphic driver. Ive never seen it before but my laptop only seems to work if i dont install my graphic driver. I would like to know why because it happened once that it worked after rebooting (for 3 hours). But my graphic card just seemed fine. Since the first time my computer stalled i had that crappy lines all over the screen at start up. So i guess my graphic card is done for?
