gigabyte 8400 gs won't boot pc

Specs: Windows XP
my HP pc won't open windows after inserting a gigabyte 8400 gs i just got it to replace my motherboard graphics but my pc just stays on the first blue hp boot screen with the setup menu option avalible but when you try it nothing happens,i saw in another question on this site that you need to change the shared memory to none but i can't seem to find any option to do this, please help

Are u sure the keyboard is working?
change the shared memory to none
U can't find this option in OEM BIOS, automatic when v-card is installed onboard video is disabled(return the stolen memory to system memory).

He's saying that when you install a video card, the memory that the system was using for your onboard video is automatically returned to the system for use. Did you install the card without installing the drivers first. You always install the drivers after the card is recognized. Depending on your model of HP, your power supply may not be able to handle the card. Disconnect your cd or dvd player and any other stuff that may be plugged into the usb ports and try again.

ok thank you, my pc only had 300 watts so i will try and upgrade to 450

ok i have just bourght a 500w power supply and the exact same thing is happening has anyone got any ideas?
