Getting popup The HP imaging device was not found on boot

Dell / Inspiron 530

Specs: Microsoft Windows 7, 2 GHz / 4GB
I have a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop computer with 64-bit Windows 7. Last month a power glitch while the computer was booting hosed it and I had to reload the operating system and all of the software. I have it mostly back to pre-glitch condition except . . . .

My Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless device produces an error message at boot which reads "The HP imaging device was not found". The HP Solution Center does not see the scanner. It worked for a couple of years but now, after rebuilding it all, something is keeping the computer from seeing the scanning function of the OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless device.

The OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless device seems to work OK otherwise. It connects to the network wirelessly. Fax seems to work as it did before. Printing is OK. I can scan from the 8500 to the desktop computer network folder using the touchscreen on the 8500. But HP Solution Center cannot see the scanning function of the 8500.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I suggest you completely remove the AIW from devices and printers and then run the HP software removal tool. Reboot and install the printer according to the manual.

I have several times removed the HP software with the Start => All Programs => HP => OfficeJet Pro 8500 Uninstall program and then reinstalled. Tried that process with the link you provided, same results. Thank you.

I am not clear on exactly how you removed the software. If you simply used the Windows feature then you should download the software removal tool from HP.

Did you have the printer disconnected when performing those operations?

Sorry my response was fuzzy.

I have removed the software with the Start => All Programs => HP => OfficeJet Pro 8500 Uninstall program and then reinstalled, both with the printer connected to the network and with the printer not connected to the network.

I have removed the software with the HP tool referenced in the link in your first message and then reinstalled, both with the printer connected to the network and with the printer not connected to the network.

For what it's worth, I have also performed these uninstalls/reinstalls with antivirus scanning on and off. And with the firewall on and off. Grasping at straws :)

Are you installing the software from a CD or download?

I am using the OJP8500vA909_Full_14.exe download from the HP web site.
