Gateway Series E 4100 not reading or writing to DVD burner.

January 14, 2014 at 13:08:06
Specs: Windows XP
Gateway E-series 4100 will not read/write to SATA DVD burner. Installed an LG-GH24NSB0 DVD burner using an IDE to SATA plug in adapter. The computer sees the drive, but cannot read from CD/DVD. When writing to CD/DVD, written file on CD/DVD proves to be corrupted. Tried updating drives and BIOS. The DVD burner will work off the USB using a USB to IDE/SATA converter. Tried MS MR FIXIT unsuccessfully. Deleted lower filter in REGEDIT with no effect. Has anyone been able to get the SATA DVD to work off the IDE on a Gateway Series E? If so, how?

Review your post above. Unless I am reading wrong you appear to be mentioning using adapters in both directions.

At any rate, adapters are not reliable. DVD burners are so cheap the adapter probably cost half the price of a drive. See the link below. You can filter for SATA only or IDE only. Your post is confusing so I am not sure which controllers you have.
