"mfatxstl elp 500c"

You've been asking questions about this system all over the internet. It sounds to me like you either installed the wrong RAM or installed the RAM backwards & fried the board. Start by determining the exact model number for the system. It seems to me that you're giving us the motherboard model number?

Do you have the serial number from the case? Enter it here:

To find the serial number, click on the picture of your case:

EDIT: Could ELP mean El Paso motherboard?

the serial number on the back of the case reads...
mfg date 12/08/01

model number MFATXSTL ELP 500

Think you are right about the motherboard.

If you put the RAM in backwards, you probably fried the board. What happens when you try to boot with no RAM installed? Any beeps? or nothing at all?

Without the RAM inserted I get 3 long beeps. With the RAM I get no beeps at all !
