Solved gateway lx6810 won't power down

September 18, 2013 at 11:51:09
Specs: Windows 7, Intel Core2 Quad Q8200/8gigs
when I shut down the cptr, the power light goes out after a few seconds but the monitor shows a "windows is shutting down" message that either never goes out or goes out after a while and windows restarts. I can hear the fans going. I have to unplug the power cord to shut down.

Holding the power off/on button down for 5 seconds or so should do it.

Probably won't help but before going any further with your issue disconnect from the domestic power then hold the power off/on button for about 20 seconds. It has been known to "unstick" things.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Check in device manager and see if there are any hardware problems showing, especially with 'system devices'.

Check in cmos/bios setup and see if there are any options to enable or configure ACPI. Also check the 'power on' options there. Unless you have a specific reason to enable them, they should be set fo 'stay off' or disable. That way your PC only starts up when you push the button.
