You can't use fujitsu siemens disks on a non-fujitsu siemens computer. All you need to do is remove the admin password & to do that, all you need to do is learn how to use google.

"can you type the instructions here please?"

Admin passwords are not meant to be easily cracked. You need to go to the 1st site on that google list, download the appropriate software, create a bootable CD, then boot off it to clear the password. And depending on which program you use, there may be some minor Linux command line work involved...do you think you can handle it?

The other alternative is to go back to the person that sold you the PC & ask them for the password. Or just completely wipe the drive & start from scratch.

I hope you aren't copying it. The live cd needs to be burnt as an iso file.

As for bsod, could be a RAM or hard disk problem.

run chkdsk & memtest86 for RAM.

hi clive pearce
thanks for your reply
i put a blank dvd in the laptop yesterday and selected NTI CD & DVD-Maker 7 to burn the ophcrack to it - I did not format the disk first - does this need to be done or is it done automatically? - the disks are TDK DVD+R.

i ran cmd then typed memtest86 but this does not work.

i ran cmd, chkdsk and the following information is on the laptop:-
17,815,392 KB in total disk space
1,439,456 KB in 1,990 hidden files
90,960 KB in 5,583 folders
12,851,120 KB are available
16,384 bytes in each allocation unit
1,113,462 total allocation units on disk
214,614 allocation units available on disk

I've re-inserted the DVD into the laptop drive and explored it but there is nothing there. I never gone the hang of nero previously and burning DVD's so not sure if I've done it correctly.

i did not copy the file - i downloaded ophcrack to the desktop and inserted the blank dvd and just tried to burn it to the dvd but maybe i haven't done it right?

hope you can follow up

thanks

Danny

You need to buy working computers. At least until you gain more computer skills.

chkdsk C: /F

I don't know NTI CD & DVD-Maker 7, I use deepburner free to burn an iso fle.

You run memtest86 from a downloaded live cd

hi OtheHill
i've been in computers 20 odd years and normally solve my own troubleshooting problems. unfortunately for me this is the first time i have laid my hands on a laptop and solved the zonealarm issue myself (you may care to look at my other post(s). with this issue, the guy had 50 pc's for sale and not 1 usb keyboard and bought the dell dimension 3100 on spec. i'm not sure even if i have an xp disk if it is possible to do a clean install as the cmos is set to boot the C drive first. dell's website tells me its out of warranty so not sure whether they will be able to help. hope you appreciate my difficulty here.
thanks

OK then. Your questions make it seem as though you are brand new to computers. At any rate you should still be aware of all the pitfalls of buying used. Especially laptops.

jam
what the hell are you talking about??
i successfully installed the Fujitsu Siemens recovery disks onto the Dell Dimension computer. You ought to study more and get your facts correct before replying to my messages/questions.

I think you could have been a bit more polite.

People here are trying to help. There was no need for that.
