Specs: Windows 7, 8GB

Was just curious if anyone else had any strange problems with a front panel/card reader. I recently purchased one to add USB/Firewire etc. It came with a 12V+5V Dc pass through and cable where you can power hard drives using the computers Power supply instead of the standard wall outlet. This connects internally by a standard 4 pin molex connector.

My problem is I turned the computer off to be safe and connected the adapter, when i power the computer back immediately shuts itself down. If the power adapter is unplugged it was as normal. This just scared me because I was afraid I might take out my motherboard. Anyone else had a similar problem? Hope this makes sense I can get more specific if needed.

Among the reviews for this product on the newegg site I see someone else had problems with the wiring to feed the external 12V port. Because of that I would take a guess and say the wiring polarity may be crossed or there is some other issue with that feature. You may want to contact newegg on that. They may test one to see.

Its not something I really need so I may just not use the 5v and 12v. I may just unhook the 4 pin in side to be safe. I guess my question is...considering the computer is posting and acting normal...Do you think I damaged anything? Everything else on the front panel works fine.

If everything is working normally then I think you are OK.

That said, if you read the reviews of that product the quality control must be an issue as some people have gotten things to work and some haven't.

I would still contact about it. They may just suggest an RMA which you can decline to do.
