foxprow 2.6 shows splash screen then shuts down!

Specs: Windows XP Pro, SP3, 1.67 gigahz Intel Atom N450 || 988 Megabytes
My HP Mini 210-1000's FoxProw 2.6 briefly displays its splash screen then closes down! Have used FoxProw 2.6 regularly for many years, but some time ago, the program was unable to get beyond the splash screen as I wanted to demo a program I had written for a friend. The same version works fine on a HP PC and an old IBM ThinkPad. Reinstalling the software makes no difference.

That can happen if you have a DOS command window open when you try to start Foxpro.

Close the DOS command window, then try Foxpro again.

If that doesn't work or it doesn't apply to you, consider upgrading to a newer version of Foxpro as v2.6 is over ten years old and is no longer supported. It's way out of date.

You might also want to try fully uninstalling Foxpro before re-installing it.

There's no DOS command window opened. The HP Mini uses Win XP SP3. Yes, FoxProw is an old program but so am I and FoxProw works quite well for what I need a relational database for. It works just fine on several other machines I have which also use Win XP SP3 too..

FoxProw has been working just fine on the Mini for years and it only caused this problem about a month ago now. I even copied a working copy of FoxProw from one of the other machines, but once installed, it still stopped functioning after the splash screen. It's a bit baffling, frankly!

Looks like a hardware problem rather than a software one to me!

If only Foxpro is having this problem (and not any other software) it's illogical to think it indicates a hardware problem in my opinion.

If it was a hardware problem it would affect other applications too, in fact Windows itself probably wouldn't be able to run with a hardware problem, or your PC wouldn't boot.

It may be time for a fresh Windows install.

A Windows install! HHmm...Pray tell what steps do I need to do this correctly. Will re-installing the OS have any affect on the already installed software?

Ever since purchasing the HP Mini, I've yet to do something like this and it is probably a proper way to give the HP Mini a good shot in the arm. Would it be a good idea to copy EVERYTHING over to a 2TB external drive that I have at home? The Mini has no CD on it and I have to use an external CD when I have re-installed various programs like my MS Office Suite. I do want to stay with Win XP SP3 however.....
