Specs: Windows XP, P3
Need to get this HP kayak xm600 (ASUS p3c-d) flashed with the asus bios. Only problem is it's not letting me. How, or what program can I use to force flash a bios file onto a flash rom.

I thought there use to be a force command, but awdflash seems to have done away with that.

Some motherboards have a jumper that prevents flashing the BIOS when in the default position. Check the manual.

Although I've done it before myself, "force flashing" an OEM BIOS with a retail BIOS is risky business. Have you done any googling to see if others were successful in doing it with that board?

Some of the OEM boards have a different bios manufacturer. I think HP has a Phoenix bios for that board while the Asus board is Award. Most likely the bios chip itself is different so it's simply not possible to force the Asus bios on the HP board.

I found that out with an OEM compaq board. Tried to force a flash to Asus (or whoever made the board) but couldn't do it. Later I noticed the motherboard had 2 different places to solder the bios---one if it was Asus and the other for OEM.

Yeah, it's appearing that awdflash, uniflash and the phoenix untility arent gonna do the trick.

I'm pretty sure it's the crap HP bios that is preventing posting when a second CPU is installed. On the ASUS website it states slockets are supported.

I really miss working at my old repair shop. We had an eprom burner there and when i use to run into trouble like this I would simply pull the bios eprom and write over it with any file I wanted.

I think it's time to start searching for a new dual PIII motherboard. The hard part is finding one for cheap that supports either RDRAM, or DDR.
