The max RAM that can be used by WinXP is approx 3.0-3.5GB. The max RAM that can be installed is determined by the motherboard but you didn't bother to list the make/model of the board.

You could go to www.crucial.com and run their memory identifier. It's free and doesn't seem to cause issues with any software. Plus, it shows the part you can use to max out memory. I imagine there are limits to what it can identify, but they stand behind it.

"If u have the PIII latest board it can accept up to 2gb of memory. "

Some boards will accept even more than that. My Apollo Pro 266T based PIII board can take up to 4GB of DDR1 memory.

However, most PIII boards are based on Intel chipsets and will only take up to 512MB (i810, i815) or 1GB (i820, i840, or a 440BX with 4 slots).
