Following removal of System Check, virus, USBs won't work.

Specs: Windows XP
I downloaded a virus, "System Check" and it messed my computer up badly. I was able to remove the virus with PC Tools, but now my USBs do not work. When I place a Jump Drive in any of the USBs, I get the response, "The disk is not formatted. Do you want to format now?" The Disk is full of my files and yet, my computer thinks it is empty and unformatted. I tried to put in a new Jump Drive and just let it format, but that did not work either.

Any suggestions? The biggest problem is with my "My Book" exterior Hard Drive. I have 9 GB on it and the computer will not recognize it either. BIG problem.

Help!!! Please.

I never like to try to recover systems. You can only tell of the one virus and you have no idea if you have rootkits or other malware. Just reload the OS from scratch and apply security suite and updates and use best practices to avoid this again.

A Pit Bull is like a gun you can pet. And there is no safety on it.

"I was able to remove the virus with PC Tools"

I'm curious why you chose PC Tools out of all the other possibilities? It's an overbloated program from Symantec/Norton that takes up almost 1GB of HDD space, it slows system performance, & rates poorly at most review sites. It's also said to report false viruses to try to get you to pay for upgrades. You may want to look at this:

Actually I was on a Federal Education Website and downloaded a document for one of my Bosses. It took me off the site and there is where I came in contact with the virus. I felt safe with my Symantec Anti-virus program. The nasty thing slipped in anyway. Thank you for your comment.
