Files on DVD-R

Maxell Dvd-rw 4.7gb 2x

Specs: Windows Vista
I saved some files onto a DVD-R because I was wiping my hard drive clean. I actually saved all the files associated with GradeQuick (teacher gradebook software). Now my computer acts like it wants to open the disk but never does. Could it be that the software files are preventing the computer from opening the DVD? I need my files!

Your computer needs to associate the file type (extension) with a program. What is the file extension of those files?

Do you have the program that created them installed?

Yes, I re-loaded the software first. Then I tried to 'open' a file with the software. That didn't work either. The computer keeps 'spinning' like it's trying to open the disk. It never even shows me that there are files on the disk. Funny thing though, my friend was able to view the files just fine! And he doesn't have the software! So, he's going to put the files onto another disk and see if my computer will open that tomorrow.

You don't need the software installed just to view the files on the DVD. It's possible you drive has gone bad or just doesn't like that brand of disc. When your friend burns another disc, try a different brand.

Also make sure you finalize the disc...

Thanks. I did finalize the DVD, and the other 8 worked just fine. He burned the files onto another disk for me and I've loaded them fine. Interesting....anyway....thanks so much for your suggestions and quick responses!
