fan pulsing when idle

Specs: Windows XP, 2.8/1.25
Fan pulses when not working hard .It picks o.k. and then runs steady but pulses again when it slows down.Is this normal or a warning sign,no other probs.

Sounds like the fan blades are not balanced.

Ha ha, blades are not balanced. It's not a ceiling fan, it's on two inches in diameter. I wouldn't worry about pulsing. It runs at different speeds when needed.

Thanks guys,I took the fan out for a better look and noticed the cooler fins were caked in crap ,so blocking the airflow.Cleaned it all off ,fan runs ok with no pulsing.Lesson learnt,try the simple solutions first.
