August 12, 2012 at 23:02:26
Specs: Windows 7
I have 3 USB ports. When I use one for mouse.. it works fine.. but when i plugged in my External HDD it wont recognize it.. this started just now after i got home from school (i have a feel my brother is trying to sabotage my laptop)

anyway.. im not knowledgeable in terms on computer stuff but i checked a few remedies before i got here..

i checked out my device's conditon on Device Manager and it has this yellow triangle with exclaimation mark in it.. i checked the properties and it says:

"This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)

Access is denied.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver."

pls help :(

Right click the drive in device manager > uninstall, and restart the system.

May be he used third party application to disable the use of USB storage devices.

Get linux puppy (only 115 MB)
http://puppylinux.org/main/Download...

Burn it and boot from optical drive(doesn't require installation)
http://puppylinux.org/main/How%20NO...

Connect the external drive and see if u can open your files.
