External HDD interface USB 2.0

Specs: Windows XP
I have a maxtor 120gig. ext. 1 touch HDD USB 2.0. with a CEB 7000 combo bridge interface card with a Cypress CY7C68013-100AC, FX2LP chipset with a 12c eeprom, that isn't working correctly.I have a USB control center, from Cypress that will let me look into and if needed reprogram the eeprom. The drive shows up in the device manager usb tree as maxtor one touch and the 120gig as a USB drive in the drive display and I can't access it. The drive as a secondary works as it should. Tested in several ways and passed.I have determined that the problem is in the interface card.I wanted to reinstall the original firmware but it isn't available from Seagate now owner of maxtor. Is there someone that has the original firmware or is there some other firmware that I can install that will make this interface card work? I don't care if it shows up as a maxtor drive just want it for storage. If I need to provide more info I can. Thanks.

Just take the easy option. If it works internally, use it internally.

I failed to mention that this is my wife's drive and must be kept portable.

What I need think I need is a way to install some firmware, doesn't have to be Maxtor, on this interface card that will let it communicate with the 120 gig drive. Some how the Maxtor firmware is only showing the drive as a USB disk and not the normal info that the other ext.drives that I hook up do.Cypress semiconductor says Maxtor has installed firmware on the card and I don't know where it hides or how to get any info about it.I know what this interface does but don't how it does it and if I did it might easyer for me to fix it. With all the different ext. cases there are out there it seems that I should be able to find a fix for this problem somehow. I can't afford to buy another case, the simple fix, and am trying to turn this into a learning experience. I am hoping that someone that knows how this type of programing works will help me out. Thanks.
