Hi,

I recently started to find a strange issue with WD external HD. Randomly all the folders and data on the drive keep disappearing..when I open a folder it shows as empty. I see the power coming to the HD still.

Only way to see the data back is to reboot the laptop and then the data is back...but after sometime the data is not there when I return and have to reboot again...

Very strange...can someone pls help me figure out what the issue is?

Thank You!!

Does your external USB use TWO USB cables?

How many USB ports do you have?

The external drive uses only one USB cable and has only one USB port.

My laptop has several though.

Is the drive formatted FAT32? Run defrag on the drive.

You might also run the Western Digital drive fitness test.
