External Hard drive problem

June 9, 2010 at 04:27:07
Specs: Windows Vista 64bit
I bought a new hard drive (seagate 7200) to use from an external enclosure for my laptop and when I first turned it on it installed drivers but wouldn't show in my computer, I checked in disk management and it showed up okay so I right clicked on it and clicked innitialise, big mistake, now it doesn't show up anywhere. apart from when I immediately plug it in again when it recognises new hardware but doesn't add it anywhere.
I have tried completely unplugging and restarting my computer, tried using a different cable and pc port but to no avail.
Any ideas how I could get it to show again. Thanks inadvance.

I am not sure what you did exactly but I think you may have made the external drive a dynamic drive.

Go back into Disk Management and see what is listed about your primary drive. Look at the total capacity and the type of disk. Post back.

I think the problem was with the cable after all, after messing some more with the new cable it showed up properly. I tested with the old cable and it was logging in and out as the cable moved so I suspect when I hit innitialise the hard drive disconnected and nothing happened. Then i made the wrong assumption.
Thanks for the help anyway.
