external hard drive not working

May 19, 2012 at 17:37:13
Specs: Windows XP
My External disk (USB hard-drive) is not working :(
When I plug it to USN the installation runs and say "ready to use" but it doesn't show up on my computer.
Under Computer Manager I have the following:
"USB storage device" under Disk Drives (says its working properly);
But nothing related to this disk appears under Disk Management
The same happen in two different laptops :-/

Can anyone give me advise on what to do to access the data in the disk?

Are you absolutely certain it's not shown in Disk Management (it may be shown as "RAW" and with no name, so you might not realise it's there)?

if you find it is actually listed there as "RAW", right-click it and choose Change Drive Letter & Paths then choose a drive-letter for it from the drop-down box.

Thanks for your reply.

I am sure its not in Disk Management... all I have in Disk Management is the C:/ and the drive D:/ (DVD)...

Its shwon under "Disk Drives" as USB DEVICE, and its also shown under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" as USB STORAGE DEVICE.

But nothing under disk management :(
