Solved External Hard Drive Issues

Specs: Windows 7, 2.4 GHz / 959 MB
Hello,
I have a 250 iomega external HDD that when i boot it up in my windows 7 OS it asks me to format and it doesn't allow me to format in NTFS, only exFAT? And when i boot up the external HDD in windows xp it asks me to format again but doesn't allow me to format at all, why is that happening? And many thanks in advance.....

So your drive is bad. Toss it and get a new one.

Windows XP does not support exFAT natively, so you will have to install a patch

but why cant i format in NTFS?

Go to your disk management, find your disk, tell me what it says. Is it a basic disk. You should be able to delete the partition there and create a new partition and format it to NTFS

yea i did that many times before and all it says is "The format did not complete successfully" .

Install and run the error check on your drive
