External drive not connecting

Specs: Windows XP
The external drive is not seen by windows. Please help urgently.
It doesn't show up in the Disk Management. I do not know what i'm doing.

if the computer is running and not seeing the external drive then it could be that the driver to run the external drive is not present on the computer at that time, or need to plug the drive to your computer and restart windows and let it boot with the drive plug to it.
try it out.

Where would I find the correct driver? It is a Maxtor drive in a Muse case.

Try with a different PC or laptop, try connecting your drive to it using a different USB cable.
Also try unplugging your drive from the power outlet for a few seconds and then connecting it again. If it?s still not being recognized, Maxtor has a free utility called PowerMax (available at www.maxtor.com) that lets you run various tests on your drive till it identifies the problem.
