Specs: Windows 7
all my movies, music and other files are on my external drive but when I connected it to my laptop, it can no longer be detected. Is there still any chance that I could recover all the files??

Do you get any message/indication that there is something connected to the USB port?
Have you tried another USB port?
Is the drive powered by the USB or external power adapter?
Does the drive start spinning?

Could be USB cable faulty, the USB to SATA controller in the enclosure faulty or the HDD faulty.

Also check in Disk Management. It may just need a drive letter manually assigning to it - - I've often had to do that when connecting an external HDD.

As per #3 above. While in Disk Management, click on the listing for the USB external drive to see how it is seen. If the file system is listed there as RAW then you may have improperly removed the drive while it was in use. If the drive show up in Disk Management then post all information listed for that drive.
