I've got a Western Digital external drive that appears to have failed. Does anyone know whether/how it can be opened to possibly replace the failed drive? The only info I have regarding the model (WD Elements) is the following codes:
P/N WDBUZG0010BBK-04
S/N WX61A8424E2E
R/N C6B DCAJCAThanks in advance

A check on the drive in question - and the whole series of WD drives like this one - shows it's dependent on the usb motherboard entirely for data in/out; there is no SATA connector on the drive itself. Whilst it's not soldered to the motherboard it does have connections to it - but not via a SATA connector. Which does limit options to extracting data from the drive - if that is ok and the usb board is what's failed?
