Error-36: an I/O error occurred (021.wmv)

Specs: Windows XP
I'm trying to access my external usb hard drive which tells me that that drive is on another network computer which I don't have the authority to access.I have the same computer that had Vista 64bit OS on a 750gb hard drive. I had to replace the hard drive and I put XP Pro 32bit OS on it. I've tried to set policy and permissions on this hard drive so I can see my old family pictures, play my music files ect. I've been able to gain a little access to some files on this hard drive, which is not very much considering it is a 200gb hard drive that is 75 percent full. Error-36: an I/O error occurred (021.wmv) while attempting to play a video file, My registery is fine, I don't think that XP Pro knows what to do with an item that was done with Vista 64bit. I need help in finding a solution for my complicated problem.

You may need to take ownership of the files/folders. Look at the link below to learn how.

You may not have the required codec software installed on the host computer.

When I right click the file and then left click the properties tab there is no security tab where I can take ownership inorder to change the policy or permissions.

Are you logging on to an account that has administrator privileges?
