Error loading opertating system

Specs: Windows Xp, Athlon x4 2gb Ram
Just got a brand new pc and i was all happy, started installing windows Xp, was busy formating the hardrive and then we got a power trip in the house while it was formating.

Now when i start the pc up with the XP cd in all i get is info on the cpu temp, fan speeds, ect, and under all that it shows "Error loading opertating system" i cant do anything while its there and its just stuck there. Is there anyway to fix this at all? or must i replace the hardrive?

if it helps at all my hardrive is a seagate 500gb 7200rpm.

If you were in the middle of formatting, then there is no operating
system.

Try a utility tool from the hard drive manufacturers site, to test it.

Go into cmos/bios setup and make sure the cdrom is the first boot device.

I'm glad it was an easy fix. I would have thought the cdrom would have been the first boot device anyway since you had already started an installation but the error sounded like it was trying to boot from the hard drive instead of the cdrom.

If the power reset changed that it's possible your cmos battery is weak and needs to be replaced.
