Solved Epson XP420 will not print the color black (with full ink)

Specs: Windows 10
Same problem. Went from printing faded black (with nearly empty cartridge) to printing no black (with new full cartridge).

I was able to fix it by taking a Q-tip and some Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol to the puncture tip inside the printer. That's the part that punctures into the cartridge. I also scraped off some ink gunk from the little feeder holes on the tip. Afterwards, it printed just fine. I guess its possible to push some dried ink down into the injection holes when you change the cartridges- causing it to get clogged.

Yes, the jets can get clogged up with old, dried ink.

Epson printers need to be used at least every other day (printing something that uses all the ink colours) to avoid this as the jets on Epson printers are very small.

Good job the blockage wasn't in the printhead because when that happens it's a strip-down job to remove the printhead so it can be soaked overnight in warm, soapy water.
