eMachine EL-1200-o5w had a stroke

Specs: Windows XP
I think my pc had a stroke, one day I noticed it was running slow so I restarted it and when I did everything went nuts. The graphics looked like windows 98, NONE of the windows/MS programs would work. I couldn't connect to the internet as the networking program would not work, the sound card wouldn't work, I couldn't play any media and I can't even move icons on the desktop or move any files. I tried a system restore but every time I did it said the system restore wasn't available and to restart and try again and starting in safe mode does not help.

Well I guessed that but can I do a recovery without being able to do anything with the computer and by that I mean will the recovery disks do it all by themselfs as the emachines recovery wizard is not working either?

Yes they will. When you boot up the machine, watch the screen to find out what key to press to enter the BIOS. It will probably say press (blank) to enter setup. Enter the BIOS and change the boot order to boot from your cd rom first. Save the changes and exit. Put the recovery cd in the tray and reboot. Watch the screen very closely and when you see Boot from cd press any key, hit one. You should then be working off the restore cd. Follow the instructins on the cd.

Ok the recovery disks are $19.99 from emachines but a seller on eBay has some for $12.95 but I'm a little hesitant to buy. Have any of you ever bought recovery disks from ebay?
