emachine c2160 failure

Emachine / C2160

Specs: Windows Vista
I have an emachine model c2160. I turned it off when I went away for the weekend and 3 days later it wouldn't turn on. Just a yellow light. Wouldn't boot up - no fan sounds or anything. Took it to a repair shop 30 miles away (live in remote area) and they said I needed a new mother board but that emachine stopped making them. I don't want a new computer because I am very happy with windows XP and adobe photo deluxe business edition 1.0. The repair shop said they sell bare bones computers for people just like me who want their old software. Is there any hope for getting a new mother board for an emachine that's about 6 yrs old? The repair shop still has the emachine and I had to call them for the model #. They gave me 2 other numbers: part #72-1054629 and CBS 2010013982. I don't know what these numbers mean. I am willing to pay for repairs - I just don't want to get a snow job. Thanks.

Emachines are noted for crappy power supplies. If it does what you said it does, it's probably the power supply. I would have someone else look at it if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself. Sounds like they want to sell you a new machine. From what I hear from a lot of people, the first thing some shops say is, it's the motherboard. Learn how to work on your own machine.

Sounds like good advice. I already went and picked up my C2160 - they didn't charge me anything - and took it to a local guy who has worked on my stuff before (different computer) and fixed it - thought he was out of business but isn't - l'll see what he says about the problem. Always good to get a second opinion. Thanks for your response.
