If you want both monitors to display the same picture then it may work (you could only tell for sure by testing with your particular video card). Note that if you use such a cable you must always have both monitors connected and switched on.

Also, you would need to use the same resolution for both monitors so they must be compatible.

LCD displays have a native resolution. It is always best to run them in their native resolution. So both should have the same native resolution.

OK they are different brands and sizes physically....ok so they both have to be on.. Hmmmm. Ok i was trying to get around a problem. One is a bit faulty and larger so was hoping while it warms itself up i could use the smaller one until the larger one is useful. Maybe it is on its way out so that is why i don't know. I f i keep the monitor connected powerwise all night it has no problems but as soon as it is off at the power point all night then it is stubborn at switching on....ok dunno what to do then

You really do not need to turn off a monitor since it powers down to standby when the computer is off or on sleep mode.
If you are also leaving the computer on when you are not having trouble, it could be the video card that is the problem (or even your power supply). Test with the other monitor under all conditions to be sure.
Getting a dual output video card would work, but if the monitor is going the best answer would be replacing it.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Yeah it is the monitor. The second smaller monitor is not giving any troubles. I turn everything off at the powerpoint when i go to bed...there apparently according to the environmentalists is still a charge going through therefore i wanna reduce the heavy bills...well they are heavy for me being on the pension
