If I understand your issue, you can play a ripped movie but you need to use Windows Explorer to get it playing? Is that correct? If that is the case, and you have ripped those DVDs then I believe the drive is working correctly.

There are settings for your optical drive that tell it what you want it to do. Auto play certain types of disks can be set, but if they are home made disks the file that is required for auto play may not be on the disk.

There's nothing wrong with the drive, it's either a problem with the way you burned the disk or your settings. What is your default player? If you don't have VLC Player, I suggest you try it.

Misunderstood me I,ll try as best as I can,I used to put a cd in drive and it started playing,I could also put songs or videos in D Drive file and write them on disc and play on any dvd player,I no longer can do this.I,m using GOM Player for years and have no problems.I,ve never used windows media player.I tried using my toshiba recovery and applications (set of 3 disc,s)but again they do not play and I can not retrieve info. What ever caused this Its way out of my experience I have no clue of where, what ,why,or how to start to fix. I thankYou OtheHill and Riider for your quick response to help me

You need to pick what type of files Auto Play a set for. General is probably what you want.

Try a retail CD or DVD and see if it will play.
