May 16, 2010 at 17:59:54
Specs: Windows XP
When I put in a blank disc and try to burn files to it i get the message "no blank disc in drive" even when its a new blank disc right off the spool. im not sure if its a registry file missing or corrupt or something else.

Sounds simple, but do you have right disks for your burner? Check that the CD or DVD disks are supported by your particular burner.

Is it a CD, DVD or Combo burner (both CDs/DVDs)?

Try a disk in another PC to see if works.

Get an optical rom laser lens cleaner: http://www.allsop.com/classic-clean...

They are detected by other computers, its a combo cd and dvd burner. I got a program called deepburner and it will burn the cd's that way but i just dont get why it doesnt recognize blank cd's on its own.

If that burner has worked before WITH the DeepBurner software, then it sounds like your burner is bad then. Check your burner to see if there's a Firmware update for it before trashing it.
