DVD stuck in drive of Acer...no pin hole

Acer Acer aspire l5100 desktop pc - amd...

Specs: Windows Vista
The drive is working perfectly, but won't open to let the dvd out. I have 4 cats and I think cat hair could be jamming the door of the dvd drive.

Try going into My Computer, highlight the drive, right click and select Eject.

I've selected eject several times and it doesn't work. Also there's no pinhole for a paperclip!

I doubt that cat hair is jamming it. Is there any activity on the drive, lights blinking etc, like it's trying to read the dvd? Try opening the case and make sure it's getting power. If all else fails, remove the drive and take it apart to remove the disk and get a new one.

I have never seen a desktop drive without the pin hole. What is the brand/ model of the drive?

You could try wedging a knife into the door and gently prying at the same time you are using the eject command. That may free it up.

You still may want to replace it but at least that may get the disk out.

I'm not sure how to open the case, it's an Acer Aspire L5100...it's a very small desktop computer 2 1/2 inches wide by 10 inches tall. I know how to open a regular desktop, but this is like a laptop with little doors on the bottom.

I was talking about the front of the tray in the drive.

I've gently tried paperclips and knives, but I don't know which side to pry. Have you ever seen the optical drive on this Acer model? Inside the slot, it looks like a narrow , vertical plastic box. can't tell which side the DVD would come out of!
This is very frustrating! AND there is no pinhole!!!

Difficult to advise you how to open the case when there does not seem to be an illustrated user manual online. These slimline micro-desktops usually have a couple of screws located on the rear panel where the I/O connectors are located and the entire case comes off in a single piece by sliding forwards once the screws are removed. Does this look like your unit? http://www.amazon.de/Acer-Aspire-De...

If so your DVD drive does not have a flap or tray. Disks are inserted/ejected bare.
Your only option is to figure out how to take the case off.

Acer may not have actually manufactured the unit, but just branded it.
