dust in screen causing light diffusion when sun at back

July 10, 2013 at 09:08:07
Specs: Windows Vista
Our S8200, one year old, is accumulating a dust-like substance on the inside of the screen. When taking pictures outside with the sun at one's back, the dust diffuses the light making it difficult/impossible to see the subject. The camera stays in the case at all times except during actual picture taking. Is this a common problem or unique to our camera?

What you think is dust on the inside of the screen may actually be on the lens and the screen is simply showing you what's on the lens. Make sure the front element of the lens is clean. Use a purpose-made lens brush or blower to remove dust from it.

One particularly effective and handy piece of kit is called the "LensPen" which has a supersoft brush at one end:

I couldn't find that problem associated with an sb200 using a google search, although there's a lot of products that turn up when using 'sb200' as a search term and you seem to think we all know who makes it.

Well anyway, you say the screen is the problem. So does that mean the lens is OK and the pictures turn out OK? It's just viewing the picture setup that is the problem? If so the problem must be with the screen. It could be you have a bad one. Is it still under warranty?

"there's a lot of products that turn up when using 'sb200' as a search term and you seem to think we all know who makes it"

The OP clearly stated S8200, not SB200. That's a Nikon camera as any search engine readily identifies.

Oops. Old eyes I guess. No wonder google didn't find anything for it.
