dsl slows with wi-fi router

Linksys Wireless-n home wireless router

Specs: Windows XP, 512
My DSL when wired direct shows 100Mbps yet my lap getting signal from my Linksys Wireless B (BEFW1154) drops to 11Mbps. Is it time to replace the router or are there other issues? BTW, the laptop can be in the same room as the router or downstairs, it doesn't seem to matter.

"My DSL when wired direct shows 100Mbps"

Of course it does & if you had a Gigabit ethernet card, it would show 1000Mbps. All that shows is what it's capable of, it doesn't mean it's actually transferring data at that rate. What rate does your DSL provider supply?

"signal from my Linksys Wireless B (BEFW1154) drops to 11Mbps"

You have a wireless B. The max transfer rate is 11Mbps. There is nothing wrong, that's all it's capable of.

And the placement of the router in direct line with the laptop does matter. If you take the laptop downstairs or into another room, you will have problem keeping it connected to the router!
