Go to www.acer.com
Pick a site that's in your language, preferably of the country you bought the computer in.
Look up the drivers for your model.
Use the serial number on the bar code label on the bottom of the laptop, rather than the model number, to find the drivers for your exact model configuration.
(not the SNID ) e.g. LXAX...................

Also...
The SM BUS drivers are included in the main chipset drivers. You could, alternately, get the main chipset drivers from the maker of the main chipset's web site and load them, then drivers for that are found automatically. Get the laptop main chipset drivers, not the desktop ones.

Search using: Aspire 5551-4873

- all "hits" are on web sites in Argentina

Obviously your model never came with XP on it.

AMD M880G Chipset

The drivers for that will have the drivers for both the main chipset and the integrated video, IF they exist for XP.

AMD M880G Chipset
http://www.amd.com/us/products/note...

Choose Motherboard / Integrated Video drivers here:
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_c...

- BEFORE you load those drivers, Microsoft .Net Framework version 2.0 must be installed to support the Catalyst software.
That's available on the Microsoft web site.

NOTE - see my next post if you want everything to be in your language, which I assume is Spanish.

- those drivers should support any language, but I don't know for sure.
If they don't support your language, go to the www.AMD.com web site and search for the multiple language version of the same Catalyst 10.x software suite.

Apparently the main chipset and video drivers support multiple languages - it's just Catalyst itself that may support only English.

The Catalyst 10.6 suite with support for Spanish and other languages is here:

http://support.amd.com/la/gpudownlo...

Optionally, at the bottom of the page, you can load multi-language support for Microsoft .Net Framework too.
..........

This must be installed BEFORE you install the above software suite:

Microsoft .NET Framework, versión 2.0, Redistributable Package (x86) (Paquete redistribuible de Microsoft .NET Framework versión 2.0)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...

If that is already installed, you will see that it's listed in Control Panel - Add Remove Programs

This is not required to install .Net Frameork 2.0, but it is required to install the SP2 update for .Net Framework 2.0.

Automatic Update, set to it's default settings, will eventually automatically install this then the SP2 update for .Net Framework 2.0, but if you want to speed that up, load this too:

Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435) está disponible
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893...

If that is already installed, you will see that it's listed in Control Panel - Add Remove Programs
.......

If your XP CD does not have SP3 updates included.....

See Response 6
http://www.computing.net/answers/wi...
starting at
"If your XP CD does not have SP3 updates included, the best time to load them is right after you have installed Windows from scratch...."

Get the drivers at the link in Response 7 (Spanish and other languages supported) and install them.
You also need Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 to be installed BEFORE you install the AMD drivers.

"But remember that i have ati MOBILITY radeon hd 4250.

All laptop mboards have mobility or similar cpus . They use less power than similar desktop versions.
HD4250 is the video adapter built into the motherboard. - that's part of the AMD M880G (main) Chipset.
Laptop main chipsets are different from similar desktop main chipsets - there are some things built into the main chipset on laptop mboards that are not built into the main chipset for desktop mboards.
The drivers support both the maun chioset and the video adapter.
If you have one of the same Acer 5551 model series, you have exactly the same motherboard as carito1111.

In most cases, all recent or fairly recent AMD main chipset mboards or AMD video chipsets use the same universal Catalyst suite of drivers and software - the installation programs only installs what your system needs.

Hi Mavis,

Atheros Wi-Fi for AS5050 doesn't work with AS5551. Luckily I found the correct one and it's "Wireless LAN_Broadcom_5.60.350.6_XPx86_A".

The very last driver I need is Sm Bus Controller for Acer Aspire 5551 @ Win XP. I got drivers from ATI website but they seem not to be working. Anyone can help?

Sometimes Windows leaves behind old error entries in Device Manager.
Go into Device Manager, RIGHT click on the unknown SM Bus drivers entry, Un-install it.
Reboot.

(e.g. RIGHT click on My Computer - Properties - Hardware - Device Manager.)

Look in Device Manager again.

If the unknown SM Bus entry appears there again -

carito111 managed to get the Sm Bus Controller drivers to load !

Try this.

Choose

- Motherboard / Integrated Video drivers
- your operating system
here:
http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downlo...

Scroll down to Optional Downloads
Get the South Bridge Driver and install it.

Reboot at least once after installing it.

Look in Device Manager again.

If the unknown SM Bus entry appears there again -

See responses # 6 and # 7

Uninstall ALL the ATI software in (Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs BEFORE you install the combo download. Usually there's a master ATI or AMD Un-install entry, that un-installs everything including Catalyst. After you have re-booted, go back into Add or Remove Programs to make sure everything related to the main chipset and display drivers is gone. If it isn't, un-install that too.

If Windows Installer 3.1 and
Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 have already been installed, an entry appears for them in Add / Remove Programs.
They don't have to be un-installed if they're already there.

DO NOT install anything when New Hardware pops up ! CANCEL that, and run the download(s).

CANCEL New Hardware if it pops up while installing the software !

"...Atheros Wi-Fi for AS5050 doesn't work with AS5551..."

... there is also a "Broadcom" wifi lan driver there for AS5050 which might of worked, sorry looking at the spec's and assumed it was "Atheros". At least you've managed to sort that, well done!
